2008 Democratic National Convention

by Sean Doherty

Looking forward to the Democratic National Convention

I know the convention is still about five full months away, but I wanted to see how much buzz is already going around the host city. What do people in Denver anticipate the DNC will be like? How do you imagine the Denver scene will be shaped? What sort of things are you looking forward to?

I want to open this blog discussion up to any topics concerning Denver hosting the DNC. Anything. The building of new hotels downtown. Influx of money in Denver as 30+ thousand people arrive. Delegates bringing their families and making the convention in Denver into a family vacation. What has been on your mind concerning the DNC? Anything? Maybe you think we won’t experience much change to daily life in Denver… But what about the traffic?

Use this blog post to add any comments, thoughts, concerns, political jokes, what have you, and lets see what kind of and how much buzz is already being generated about the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

I think its hilarious that the prostitution industry is expecting a big spike in business at the time of the convention.
What does that tell you about the kind of people who follow and get involved in politics?

  2. Sandy Says:

I think its going to be a crazy time but still really fun and educational

  3. Christine Says:

I hope the convention will boost the economy and will encourage people to visit Denver.

  4. Barbie Says:

I know that the traffic and the tourism will suck for the people in Denver but I think it’s good idea to bring an attraction to Denver. Not many people know much about our state besides the mountains so I think it’ll be good to show them the other side of Denver too.

  5. Roger Says:

The DNC is going to be a great boost for the economy and the party scene here. It is kind of funny to watch Denver scurrying to clean up the streets. If the homeless people on my block disappear the night before I’m calling Giuliani.

  6. un poco Says:

This country is ripe for revolution and if it’s going to happen the beginning may be during the DNC. On the downside… traffic, crowds, Colorado knick-knacks being solicited from every direction etc etc.

  7. Kellie Says:

I think that there won’t be much of a change other than people will be making some money off of renting their homes out.

  8. K Says:

The DNC will definitly bring attention to the city of Denver and the state of Colorado. This election is by far the most important and ground breaking. Either way, Denver will make national and even international news.

  9. Lauren Niccole Says:

Denver is already a large and bustling city, and I can’t wait for it to become even larger for a short itme during the convention. However, I am worried about being able to enjoy Denver during this time, resturants will be packed and traffic will be horrible. On the plus side, it will be a huge opportunity to network, especially for those seeking political careers.

P.S. Sean Doherty is one sexy man

  10. Sarah M. Says:

I think the DNC in Colorado will bring a new spotlight to Democrats in the west. It will put us on the map. I am excited for Denver to host such an important & landmark event. What an honor!

  11. john jakes Says:

Tis a scary thought having all those liberals/progressives invading our fair city but at least it is only temporary. I too agree that we are on the verge of a revolution of sorts. I hope it will be a revolution for our liberties and serious reductions in taxes and government involvement in our lives.

  12. DFM Says:

Hosting the DNC in Denver will most likely make our voters (as well as those who are eligbile to vote, yet choose not to exercise that right!) more aware of the entire political process. Maybe eventually we will actually have more people voting in the Presidential election than in the “American Idol”, “Dancing with Stars”, or latest reality show “call-in and vote” competition!?!

  13. Sean Doherty Says:

Thanks for all your great comments and interesting perspective about what the DNC will be like and will mean for Denver. Seems like we have a pretty good mix of people for, against, neutral, unconcerned, either way, etc., in thinking about the DNC in our city. I hope you will all continue to bounce back to my blog as I continue to follow the DNC and the impact on Denver

  14. Cindy Says:

I am truly looking forward to the DNC in Denver. I believe it is a great opportunity to spotlight quality union labor which will be doing much of the construction on the various needed venues.

There will be some disruption-Metro State has decided to begin the fall semester early and close during the convention for the security and conveniene of their students and to allow the use of some of their facilities including parking for the convention attendees-but the disruptions are minor compared to the wonderful exposure the city of Denver will get from the DNC.

Thanks for the opportunity to air my thoughts regarding the convention!

  15. Carneice Brown White Says:

I am an 80 year old senior excited about the DNC. I have written a Rap/song about an Obama SALAD. It is a more honest portrayal of the USA as we form a rich delicious visual presentation that motivates and moves us to the reaslization that each of us will release our best flavor when combined into a beautiful, nutritious SALAD of humanity. I would like to donate the rap and photos to the campaign. May I hear from you!
